PHOTOS: Ooni settles dispute between Fayemi, Ekiti monarchs

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital on Monday, March 16, for a brief meeting with some aggrieved traditional rulers over the crisis rocking the Ekiti State Council of Traditional rulers.

Oba Ogunwusi who arrived the palace of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti at about 12:45pm and was ushered into Ewi’s chamber where he met with the aggrieved monarchs behind close door.

The aggrieved Obas include Ewi of Ado-Ekiti Oba Rufus Adejugbe; Oloye of Oye Oba Oluwole Ademolaju; Elekole of Ikole Oba Adewumi Fasiku; Elemure of Emure Oba Emmanuel Ogunleye; Ajero of Ijero Oba Joseph Adewole; Alara of Aramoko, Oba Adegoke Adeyemi.

Others are: Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti Oba Samuel Adejimi; Olomuo of Omuo Oba Noah Omonigbehin; Alaaye of Efon Oba Emmanuel Aladejare; Ologotun of Oguntun Oba Samuel Oyebade and Olujudo of Ido-Faboro, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro.

The purpose of the meeting was to find a lasting solution to the stand-off between Governor Kayode Fayemi and the aggrieved monarchs who had been at loggerheads since July 31, 2019 over the appointment of Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Alabi, as the new chairman of Ekiti Council of traditional rulers.

Then, later the Ooni led the 11 aggrieved traditional rulers to the meeting which, scheduled at the Governor’s office Ado Ekiti.

Meanwhile, the misunderstanding between some prominent traditional rulers in Ekiti state and the state government has been resolved.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting held at the Governors office Ado Ekiti, Oba Ogunwusi said the traditional rulers have agreed to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign within the traditional institutions in the state.

Oba Ogunwusi blamed the media for its role in fueling the crisis among the monarchs.

He urged the monarchs to be united particularly, in the interest of the Yoruba race.

The Ooni of Ife observed that there should be a mutual respect between government and traditional rulers, and urged the aggrieved monarchs to embrace patriotism to give room for peace and development.

Also the Ewi of Ado Ekiti Oba Rufus Adejugbe said the issue among the Obas was a family affair and would be treated as such since they had agreed to work together.

Similarly the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti Oba Adewole Adebayo told newsmen that the court case instituted by the monarch against the current Chairman of council of Obas in the state and Alawe of Ilawe Oba Ajibade Alabi would now be suspended based on the agreement reached at the reconciliatory meeting.

In a remark, Chairman Ekiti Council of Obas, Oba Adebanji Alabi confirmed that there was no more division among the monarchs as the issues causing the row among them had been resolved.

Some prominent Obas in Ekiti popularly referred to as Pelupelu had since the appointment of the Alawe of Ilawe as the chairman, council of Obas shunned the monthly meeting called by the council as well as some state functions to protest the emergence of the Alawe on the complaint that he is not one of the sixteen Obas fit to occupy the exalted seat.
