Sequel to outrage by Nigerians, the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has released a statement after pictures of him emerges on the social media.
Fayemi, in a statement on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Kanmi Olatoye, said he was at another event in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Fayemi claimed that he was invited by a long-time friend and a journalists, Mr. Dele Olojode, to the World Festival of Ideas, in Stellenbosch, Western Cape province, South Africa.”
Mr Fayemi was not aware the Foreign Minister has already spoken to the press detailing why Governors Fayemi and El-Rufai attended the WEF event despite Govt claims of boycotting the Forum.
He added that, “More importantly, the event already held before the decision of the Federal Government to boycott the WEF programme.”
Nigerian Govt officials and some Private citizens traveled to South Africa after the gruesome attack on Nigerians and other African nationals living in South Africa.
