Gunmen kidnap four family members, three others escape in Ado-Ikere-Akure road

Four family members have been abducted along Ado-Ikere-Akure road by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

It was gathered that incident occurred in between the boundary of Iju in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State and Ikere Ekiti in Ikere local government of Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the victims comprised a man and his three children, who were said to be travelling from Ado Ekiti to Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Sunday.

A source said the victims, whose identities had yet-to-be-ascertained as of the time of filing this report, were kidnapped when their vehicle slowed down due to the bad road.

The source said, “When their vehicle got to the bad portion, it slowed down.

“Suddenly, the gunmen came out of the bush and shot sporadically into the air. Three of the vehicle occupants managed to escape from the scene, while the four victims were marched into the bush by the hoodlums.”

The incident happened hours after a lecturer at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Mr Mayowa Adinlewa, was abducted at a bad portion of the same road.

Adinlewa, who works with the state university was said to be travelling to Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State to see his relatives when he was reportedly kidnapped along with the bad spot on the Akure-Ikere Ekiti road.

It was gathered that the victim’s vehicle which was spotted on the road unlocked attracted some residents of the community who raised the alarm over the development.

According to reports, the kidnappers spoke with his wife over the phone on Sunday.

In the audio, Mr Adinlewa was heard telling the wife that they are in the bush and that they had trekked for hours without eating nor drinking.

He went on to say that the heat from the long trip had already burned his legs and that his phone would be taken from him soon.

The victim’s older brother, Toyin Adinlewa, acknowledged that his brother had been kidnapped and that a ransom of N10 million had been sought.

The head of the information and protocol unit of the University, Victor Akinpelumi said the incident is still sketchy and promised to get back to our reporter.
