Nnamdi Kanu’s Family Alleges DSS is Hiding His Health Condition

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of violating a court order and denying him access to visitors.

They claim that the DSS is hiding his health condition, which they say is deteriorating.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in DSS custody in Abuja since June 2021, when he was arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria. He is facing charges of treason and terrorism for his role in the secessionist movement of Biafra.

Despite a court order that granted him access to his family members and lawyers twice a week, the DSS has allegedly refused to allow anyone to see him.

Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of Nnamdi Kanu, said that the DSS is stopping his brother’s visitors from seeing him to conceal his health status.

He said that the DSS has become a private security company that operates as a personal family business of the authorities.

He wondered why his brother is still in detention against the rule of law and human rights.
