Abuja on Edge: Can Senator Kingibe Bridge the “Wike Wall” to Tackle Insecurity?

The Nigerian capital is on edge, and fingers are pointing. Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has accused Minister Nyesom Wike of a concerning communication breakdown – one that she fears is hampering efforts to combat the rising tide of insecurity in Abuja.

“I have never met with the minister except when he came for budget approval,” Kingibe stated on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “I have reached out to him several times. He seems to think Senator Aduda is still the FCT Senator, but that’s not the case.”

Her frustration is palpable. WhatsApp messages go unanswered, letters gather dust, and a crucial sense of collaboration eludes them. This “disconnect,” as Kingibe terms it, creates a formidable “Wike Wall” obstructing the path to effective security solutions.

Senate Steps In, But Will Wike Answer the Call?

Determined to break through the impasse, Kingibe has announced plans for the Senate to summon Wike and key security agencies. The agenda: a comprehensive briefing on their concrete plans to curb the growing fear in Abuja and its environs.

“He should be able to tell us, the committee, and specifically me, that this is the plan for protecting the people of the FCT,” Kingibe asserted. “Between him, the police commissioner, and the head of the DSS, they must have a plan.”
