Bridge Collapses As Flash Flooding Hits Ekiti Community

The torrential rain in Ikere Community area of Ekiti State has resulted to flooding for the past one week which left majority of residents who work and do business outside the community stranded, Newsflash247 reports

In the town, the residents of areas such as Oke Osun along the Akure Road, Odo Oja and Ise Road were also affected as the flood submerged some houses and cars.

Sources said occupants of the affected houses were trapped inside for hours, while other residents had difficulties accessing their houses.

Newsflash247 gathered that the flood covered the bridge on the Ajolagun area of the town which links the place to Ijare in Ondo State, and forced stranded commuters and the other residents had difficulties accessing their houses.

The lawmaker represents Constituency area in the Ekiti House of Assembly, Tunde Idowu has called on State Government and other relevant agencies to come to the rescue of the residents of Ajolagun Bridge from being cut-off from other parts of the town.

Tunde Idowu made the call on Monday when Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Abuja visited the collapsed bridge on Osun River along Ajolagun-Ijare road.

Hon. Idowu, who is Chairman House Committee on Environment said that the call become necessary as the bridge connecting the community to other parts of the town had collapsed.

This followed a heavy downpour that resulted to flooding for the past one week which left majority of residents who work and do business outside the community stranded, as neither cars nor motorcycles could ply the road.

Residents who have no alternative route to their homes parked their cars by the roadside and trekked long distances to their houses.
