EFCC Bans Night Raids by Operatives in All Commands

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has ordered its operatives to stop conducting sting operations at night time in all its Commands across the country.

This is part of the new procedures on arrest and bail of suspects by the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, issued the directive on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, following the arrest of 69 suspected internet fraudsters by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Commission in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The arrest, which took place at night, sparked public outcry and criticism.

The EFCC Head, Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement that many of the suspects have been released after being profiled by the Command, while the remaining ones will be released soon. He assured the public that the Commission will adhere to the rule of law in the exercise of its mandate.

The EFCC, which is known for carrying out operations and raids during midnight, has been accused of violating the rights and dignity of suspects and innocent citizens. The new directive is expected to address these concerns and improve the image of the Commission.
