DSTV Nigeria Raises Subscription Fees Again, Customers to Pay More from November 6

DSTV Nigeria, a subsidiary of Multichoice, has announced another increase in its subscription fees for different bouquets, effective from Monday, November 6, 2023.

This is the second time the company has hiked its prices this year, causing more financial burden for its customers.

According to a notice sent by DSTV to its subscribers on Friday, the new rates will be at least 16 per cent higher than the previous ones, depending on the bouquet.

For example, the DSTV compact or GOTV Supa+ package, which used to cost N10,500, will now cost N12,500. Similarly, the DSTV Premium package, which was N24,500, will now be N29,500.

The table below shows the old and new prices for each bouquet:

Bouquet Old Price (N) New Price (N) Percentage Increase
DSTV Premium  24,500 29,500    20.4
DSTV Compact+ 16,600 19,800 19.3
DSTV Compact or GOTV Supa+ 10,500       12,500 19.0
DSTV Confam 6,200 7,400   19.4
DSTV Yanga  3,500 4,200 20.0
GOTV Supa  6,400 7,600 18.8
GOTV Max 4,850 5,700 17.5
GOTV Jolli 3,300 3,950 19.7
GOTV Jinja 2,250 2,700 20.0
DStv Padi N2,500 N2,950

The company has not given any official reason for the price increment, but some analysts have speculated that it could be due to the high inflation rate, the devaluation of the naira, and the increased cost of content acquisition.

However, many customers have expressed their dissatisfaction and frustration with the price hike, especially as the quality of service has not improved. Some have threatened to boycott the service or switch to other alternatives, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Showmax.

In March, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, had issued a warning to DSTV over the price increment, saying that it violated the consumer rights and fair competition laws. However, the company did not comply with the directive, and the FCCPC did not take any further action.
