Police Escort Suspended NHIS Boss To Office

Policemen numbering about 50 have tear-gassed staff members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

They shot the cannisters into the NHIS headquarters on Monday, as they broke the gates of the premises to escort the suspended NHIS Executive Secretary, Professor Usman Yusuf, into the headquarters.

Yusus’s suspension was announced last Thursday.

According to The Punch, the policemen fired the tear gas to disperse members of staff, who wanted to prevent Usman from gaining access to the premises.

The NHIS boss, who was suspended by the governing council of the NHIS insisted that the board had no power to suspend him.
