One of the Paramount Rulers in Ogun State, The Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle on Saturday, November 23, has urged the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM in state, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, to withdraw his petition against Gov Dapo Abiodun of the State at the Supreme court.

Olu of Ilaro, the Paramount ruler of Yewa land said the fact that Yewa is the only zone that has not ruled Ogun State since it was created 43 years ago.

Akinlade, who is a Yewa man from Ipokia Local Government, contested head to head with Abiodun, with less than 20,000 votes margin.

Unsatisfied with the outcome of the election, the former lawmaker had earlier approached the election petition tribunal and the Appeal Court,
to seek justice. But his petitions were dismissed, allegedly for lack of merit.

However, Akinlade said last week that he would approach the Supreme Court to test the strength of his case, expressing optimism that he would be favoured at the apex court.

Akinlade’s Supreme Court move has been generating reactions from the the Segun Osoba-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun.

Joining the discussion, Oba Olugbenle, at the grand finale of 2019 Oronna festival, held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion, Ilaro, told Akinlade to drop his quest for justice at the apex court.

He said, ”To my brother, Hon. Akinlade who contested in last election with the Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun. I want to say that it with sense of responsibility that you are a pride of this land and I want to beg and implore you on behalf of the good people of Yewa land, whom you represent, that we don’t need any appeal at the Supreme Court. Go and withdraw your case at the Supreme Court.”

The monarch advised Akinlade to join hands with Dapo Abiodun so as to move the state forward.

”I want Abiodun and Akinlade to see themselves as brothers and not enemies,” he stated.
