Ekiti Residents in Fear as Kidnappers Hold Two Men Hostage After Collecting Ransom

Two men from Aisegba-Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, are still in the hands of kidnappers who collected ransom from their families.

The incident has caused fear and confusion among the relatives and friends of the victims, who are worried about their safety.

The victims are Fagbemi Abayomi, a native of Ilupeju-Ekiti in Ekiti State, and Ojo Musa, from Kogi State. They were living in Aisegba-Ekiti when they were abducted at gunpoint on their way between Ilu-Omoba and Aisegba-Ekiti a few weeks ago.

Mrs Fagbemi, the wife of one of the victims, said the kidnappers contacted her on her phone and demanded N15 million as ransom. After negotiating, they agreed to take N1 million from her and N2 million from the other victim’s family.

However, to the shock of the families, the kidnappers did not release the men after receiving the money. They also switched off their phone number and cut off communication. Mrs Fagbemi said they had been struggling to raise the money and now they were living in fear and anxiety.

“It has been two weeks since we paid the ransom, but my husband is still not free. This is a serious threat to our town and family. We have not been able to talk to him for one and a half weeks now. The phone number the kidnappers used to call us is no longer working.”

The families appealed to the Amotekun Corps and the Ekiti State Police Command to intensify their efforts to find and rescue the victims. They said the kidnappers might be hiding in the forests around Aisegba-Agbado-Imes-Irun and Aisegba-Agbado-Ise.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, said he would get back to us on the matter, while the Commander of Amotekun Corps, Brig-Gen Olu Adewa (Rtd), said the command was doing everything possible to save the victims.
