NASS: The deadly virus in Nigeria suspends plenary as claimed; 200 members away to Dubai for Speaker’s mother Birthday

There was a mild drama on Tuesday, March 3, as the House of Representatives resolves to suspend plenary for two weeks to screen and detect symptoms of the deadly Coronavirus, currently spreading fear across the country.

The House said the period will allow the Management of the National Assembly and principal officers, provide screening and detection facilities at the complex.

But one of the popular social media activists in Oyo State, Yso Olaniyi Elodyperhas criticized the lawmakers for shutting down an organ of government because of Coronavirus while the worst hit countries have not and will never consider shutting down the government; instead they are making frantic measures to end the menace.

He said, of the 360 members, over 200 are away in Dubai while less than 100 of them resolved to shut down the green chamber for two weeks.

He posted on his Facebook page:

“I shed tears for my country while watching the parliament of baboons on national TV. I was highly dejected because Nigeria is the first country of the world to shut down an organ of government because of coronavirus while the worst hit countries have not and will never consider shutting down govt; instead they are making frantic measures to end the menace.

“After 5hrs of analysing the action of the House of Reps, I came to conclusion that the resolution is self-serving. Of the 360 members, over 200 are away in Dubai while less than 100 of them resolved to shut down the green chamber for 2 weeks. The deputy speaker presided over the house. The decision to close the Green Chamber, came from Minority Leader, Rep. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu (PDP-Delta), while the House adopted a Motion moved by Rep Josiah Edem(PDP-Akwa Ibom).

“The presence of less than 100 members in the green chamber was very strategic – to approve 2 weeks holiday ALL IN THE NAME OF CORONAVIRUS in order to attend N3b 90th Birthday Party of mother of their boss in the United Arabs Emirates.

“The fanfare and lavish celebration to mark the woman’s 90th birthday started on Monday (March 2) and is expected to run until March 10 in the glittering Arab city.

“It is very sad that 99% of the 9th Assembly are serving themselves and not Nigerians. They didn’t shutdown because of unproductive service chiefs, increment in VAT, neck breaking hike in electricity tariffs, charges of drop calls, rising inflation, ever-increasing unemployment rate, proposed stoppage of NPOWER and among others, but they’re going to party, using coronavirus as a cover up.

“In February 2019, over 100 innocent Nigerians were killed in Maiduguri, Katsina and Kaduna, the Parliament of Baboons didn’t consider it imperative to force Mr. President to sack the service chiefs and to call for restructuring of the security architecture. To them, killings are one of those things so far they’re getting alerts.

“Is Nigeria a cursed nation or the Lawmakers are the real coronavirus causing setbacks for us? History will not forgive and forget the 9th NASS as the most corrupt, shameless and serving parliament in the history of Nigeria.

“Now that the House of Reps have tactically shutdown, hope their Ogas in the Red chambers follow suit. It’s well with the suffering Nigerians”.

Recall that, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that the Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has reportedly taken about 300 guests to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the birthday of his mother, Alhaja Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila.

According to the Sahara Reporters, who gathered the report that Gbajabiamila is already warming up to stage an elaborate birthday party for his mother in Dubai starting from March 2 to run until March 10.

If calculated by 300 guests, the cost for hotel accommodation alone per night will amount to $36,600 (N13,176,000).

Findings by SaharaReporters revealed that the average price for round-trip flights from Nigeria to Dubai is currently $637 (N229,320).

When this is calculated for 300 guests, the total expenditure for airfare falls to N68,796,000.
