Lockdown: Panic in Ekiti as Covid-19 Cases Increases

There was panic in Ekiti State on Saturday following a newly recorded case of Covid-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the state to 3.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Friday night, announced one case in Ekiti State, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 493.

NCDC made the announcement on its official Twitter account.

The new cases are spread across the seven states as well as Abuja, the country capital.

Source gathered that the Coronavirus case that was confirmed on Friday night was first treated at a private hospital in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Lere Olayinka, the spokesman of the former governor, Ayo Fayose who raised alarm on his Facebook account, calling the state governor, Kayode Fayemi and his team should be in the Federal Medical Centre, Ido- Ekiti, in Ido Osi local government Area of the State.

He said “By now, Gov Fayemi and his team should be in FMC, Ido Ekiti.

“As I write, there are over 30 people that had contact with the case in Ido Ekiti, waiting for evacuation to the State Isolation Centre”.

He said (1) “the index case, a pregnant woman came to Ekiti from Lagos, possibly last week. How did she enter Ekiti despite the lock down?

(2) “She was first brought to the Health Center at Okeyinmi in Ado Ekiti.

(3) “She was moved from the Health Center to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).

(4) “When she was not attended to on time, she was moved to Unique Hospital in Ado Ekiti, where she had a C-section (cesarean section)

“#NOTE:

“From 1 to 4, no one suspected Coronavirus, meaning that those who had contact with her did not take any precautionary measure.

5.” She was moved to FMC, Ido Ekiti on Tuesday.

“Now, has Ekiti State government started tracing all those she had contact with?

“Is the right enlightenment being done so that both primary and secondary contacts can surrender themselves for proper monitoring and isolation?

To me, this looming disaster is more important.

Let’s act now!”
