The presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, has won the state of Michigan in the ongoing United States elections, which carries 16 Electoral College votes.

Biden, a former US vice-president, beat Trump with a margin of 67,138 votes in the state.

In 2016, Trump had defeated Hillary Clinton in Michigan, which is considered a key battleground.

All of the votes have been counted with Biden leading with 2,684,200 votes, while Trump garnered 2,617,062.

Biden has also won the state of Hawaii and carried 4 Electoral College votes. He leads 365,802 votes, while Trump garnered 196,602.

Observers have pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as a major issue swinging decisions and patterns in the ongoing elections.

According to John Zogby, renowned public opinion pollster and founder of Zogby Strategies, there are over 20 million votes yet to be counted, while over 130 million votes have been counted for either of both leading candidates.

So far, Biden leading in results from 264 electoral votes and Trump 214.

The magic number of electoral votes is 270.
