Popular socialite, Obi Cubana, still in EFCC custody

Celebrated socialite and businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cabana is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja, Newsflash Nigeria learnt.

Recall that Onwumelu Valentine, the businessman’s friend and colleague of Obi Cubana announced on Tuesday evening via his Instagram page that the socialite had been set free.

However, Newsflash Nigeria revealed that Obi Cubana is still in the custody of the Anti-graft Agency and confiscated the passport of a popular socialite and businessman.

It was gathered that the seizure of his travel document was to prevent him from leaving the country while under investigation.

Checks revealed that the anti-graft agency quizzed the Anambra-born social media influencer for the third day on Wednesday at its Abuja, Jabi headquarters.

A source stated, “Obi Cubana has not been released, he is still having quality sessions with investigators over alleged money laundering running into millions of naira and tax fraud.

“He will be released when he has satisfactorily responded to all questions relating to his involvement in various illegal deals. As part of the investigation, his travel document has been temporarily seized pending the conclusion of investigations.”

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that the suspect is still in custody, however, said he has no information on the seizure of his passport.

But SaharaReporter revealed that the businessman has been granted administrative bail which is customary of the institution after holding an individual after 24hrs.

The source said: “It is routine that once anyone is detained beyond a day, we give ‘Administrative Bail’ conditions but he is still with them because he hasn’t met the conditions.

“He has not been released yet contrary to some reports.” a source in the EFCC told the publication.

The conditions for the administrative bail have however not been verified.

Obi Cubana was the talk of the town in July during the burial celebration of his late mother. The socialite was gifted over 200 cows and lots of celebrities and politicians were in attendance.

Most Nigerians have questioned the source of the socialite wealth while others have tagged him as a businessman who works for his money.
