Gunmen Hijacks Commercial Vehicle Along Ikere-Akure Road, Passengers, Driver Kidnapped

Some passengers of a Toyota Previa commercial vehicle and the driver have been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen along Akure- Ikere road.

Multiple sources said the Toyota Previa owned by one Deji, a former Chairman of Tosin Aluko Part, Ado Ekiti branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NUTRW) was heading towards Ado Ekiti On Tuesday, before it was ambushed at one of the bad spots on the route and some of the occupants of the vehicle were taken away.

This incident is coming barely a week after the Nigerian Army launched an Anti Kidnapping drone to cover both Ondo and Ekiti.

As at the time of this report, the actual figure of those involved has not been ascertained.

When contacted on telephone, one of the executives of a Drivers Union in Akure who spoke under the condition of the anonymity confirmed the incident.


Also the leadership of NURTW in Ekiti state also confirmed that the vehicle involved was known to be that of a driver called Baba Ikere but declined further comment on the issue.

As at late ten o’clock in the night of Tuesday the vehicle involved is still on the spot of the incident and nothing had been heard from any of the victims.

Efforts to speak with Ekiti State Police Command was unsuccessful as the phone number of the police Public Relations Officer of the Command was switched off.
