Ganduje Bribery Video: NGO Sues CJN

A non-governmental organisation, Human and Environmental Development Agenda, HEDA, has taken the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Tanko Muhammad, to court, seeking an order of court to compel him to probe the bribery allegation against Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Hearing in the suit filed before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has been fixed for March 21.

Recall that sometime last year, video clips of the governor allegedly collecting bribe in dollars from a contractor had been released by the publisher of an online newspaper, Daily Nigeria, Jafaar Jafaar.

The Kano State House of Assembly launched a probe into the matter to ascertain the authenticity of the video clips, but had to halt proceedings following an order from a Kano State High Court to that effect.

A statement issued by HEDA’s Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, on Thursday said the group was seeking an order of mandamus against the CJN in relation to Ganduje’s probe.

“HEDA sought an order granting leave to it to apply for a judicial review to seek an order directing the Chief Justice of Nigeria to investigate the allegations against Ganduje based on Section 52 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission Act 2000 (as amended),” he explained.

Suraju further stated that HEDA wants the court to compel the CJN to appoint an independent counsel to investigate the “grave” allegations against the Kano State Governor, adding that they went to court after the CJN ignored its letter requesting that Ganduje be probed.
