We noticed strange movements before setting Sunday Igboho’s house fire — Residents
It was learnt that the incident occurred a few minutes after electricity was taken off at the area, but no casualty was recorded as of the time of filing this report.
Following the attack on the house belonging to the Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Sunday Igboho, in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital, was reportedly set on fire in the early hours of Tuesday, some residents in the area have shed more light on the story.
Newsflash had earlier reported that one of the houses of Sunday Igboho in Ibadan had been raised by suspected arsonists.
Sources who confirmed the development to Newsflash said the event occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
It was learnt that the incident occurred a few minutes after electricity was taken off at the area, but no casualty was recorded as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, efforts of men of the state fire service to put out the fire was not enough as the fire has engulfed major parts of the building.
Moreover, some residents in the area have shed more light on the story.
According to them, they noticed strange movements during the day, yesterday but they didn’t suspect anything.
“Those strange people were not Yoruba-speaking and they had been around for some time, they initially went into a wrong house shooting and trying to force entry, but they later discovered it wasn’t the place.
“They located the house which was is old house, gained entry and lit a section of the house,” said one of the residents who spoke to Vanguard off the record.
Also, Alhaji Muhib Aliyu Wereniseoluwa, the General Chairman of Temidire Agbamu Community speaks on the circumstances surrounding the story.
The Chairman, who spoke to Newsflash, said they’re surprised about the incident while commenting on Sunday Igboho’s house fire.
“We heard gunshots in the middle of the night, early morning we came here. We have been to his second house to greet him. For about 10 years, there have been peace and nothing of such.
“We rose to support and show him solidarity. We cannot say for sure there were foreign movements. We cannot say for sure.
“Gunshot started around 1am. We know there was arson and firefighter came one time. Firefighters came around past 3am,” he said.
