Electricity: BEDC workers strike over minimum wage

Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, workers going on strike on Tuesday over the disagreement of salary between the manager of the company, Mrs. Funke Osibodu, and their staff
BEDC electricity consumers control in Delta, Edo, Ondo and Ekiti states.

BEDC commencement of operation five years ago, management has not made any increment to their workers’ salary which others operation have an increment of the salary of their workers.

Meanwhile, Unrelenting protests against activities of BEDC, surfaced on Monday, as members of civil society groups, under the Civil Society Organisations, staged a protest against what they described as intimidation of customers by the company.

Hundred is the aggrieved protesters, dressed in black, marched through the Museum ground on Kings Square at the city centre, before making their way to the headquarters of the electricity distribution company, located along Akpakpava Road.

The protesters also barricaded the major entrances to the firm, with the aim of preventing the staff from entering or leaving the company’s premises, which disrupted human and vehicular movement in the area.
