Man bags life jail for impregnating own daughter in Ekiti

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a man, Lucky Ayosin, to life imprisonment for raping his own daughter to the extent of putting her in the family way.

Ayosin was also sentenced to ten years imprisonment for attempting to murder his son, Ilesanmi Ayosin, who caught him while having sex with his younger sister.

The trial judge, Justice John Adeyeye, ruled that both sentences were to run concurrently and held that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Justice Adeyeye found Ayosin guilty of attempted murder contrary to Section 320 of Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012 and rape contrary to Section 358 of the same code.

While the case was going on, the victim (name withheld) who was an SS 2 student at the time, gave birth to a baby girl, who was a product of an endless sexual abuse by her own father.

The convict’s 20-year-old son, Ilesanmi, caught his father having sex with his younger sister three times.

Ilesanmi was shot by the father with a single-barrel gun in a bid to prevent the act from becoming public knowledge.

The boy escaped and reported the incident to their mother, Yemisi Bayode, who had divorced their father 14 years ago leaving the two children in his custody.

The incident, according to the charge sheet, occurred on or about 19th November 2015 at Isaba-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of the state.

The convict first appeared before a Magistrate’s Court after which a legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions necessitated the transfer of the matter to the State High Court.

Ayosin was first arraigned at the High Court on 21st February 2017 on a two-count charge of attempted murder and rape.

The prosecution called five witnesses on the course of the trial, including a medical doctor who examined the girl who was raped and impregnated by her father.

Exhibits tendered include the statement of the convict, medical report and the single-barrel gun used by Ayosin to shoot his son in a bid to cover up his crime.

A counsel from the Office of the DPP, Mrs. Kemi Ajumobi, represented the State while the convict was represented by Mrs. A.T. Baderinwa from the Legal Aid Council.
