VAT: Appeal court rules in favour of Lagos State

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has granted an application by Lagos State Government to be joined as a party in the suit filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service against the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) by state governments.

In his ruling, Justice Haruna Tsammani ruled that the Lagos state government has been able to establish that it has a direct and legal interest in the subject matter of the appeal.

Mr Tsammani granted the reliefs sought on the originating summons by the Lagos government and made them the third respondent in the suit.

The judge adjourned the matter to October 7. He then moved the matter to Port-Harcourt for further hearing.

He ordered parties to be served the amended processes.

FIRS, at the last adjourned date, through its counsel Mohammed Magaji (SAN), prayed the court to discountenance the application of the Lagos State Government.
