PDP Presidential primary: Accreditation ongoing for delegates as Governors arriving venue

As the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP commences its Special National Convention/Presidential primary today,  the accreditation of the National delegates for the presidential primary election of the  Peoples Democratic Party is underway.

The presidential primary is being held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abuja.

NEWSFLASH NIGERIA had earlier reported that no fewer than 811 delegates from the 774 local government areas across the country would decide the fate of the aspirants jostling to be the flagbearer of the party.

A total of 811 delegates consisting of one per local government area were elected at the 774 local government congresses of the party weeks ago.

The 37 others, who are people with disability, were nominated by the state chapters and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Each state nominated a delegate in this category.

Our reporter observed that the accreditation is being done by geopolitical zones.

NEWSFLASH NIGERIA also observed that a book containing the names and the local government areas of delegates is with party officials at the accreditation centre.

The officials in turn cross-check and give tags carrying the names of the delegates.

Some of the tags sighted by our correspondent also had barcodes.

Also, our correspondent noticed a heavy presence of security agents at the venue of the accreditation.

Dignities and leading figures including Presidential aspirants have started arriving at the Velodrome of the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja, the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party Special Convention / Presidential primary.

So far, Chairman of the Convention Committee, Senator David Mark, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, his Benue State counterpart, Samual Ortom, the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, and former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, as well as delegates from most of the 36 states of the federation, have arrived.

Meanwhile, Abia state governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said that he has a soft spot for the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

Ikpeazu stated this at the venue of the National Convention on Saturday. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has about fifteen aspirants coming out for the presidency job.

With this, Wike has to face the former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Former senate president, Pius Ayim Pius, Governor of Cross River, Emmanuel Udom, and other aspirants.

While fielding questions from Arise Correspondent on who is going to emerge victorious, Okezie Ikpeazu opined: “I have a soft spot for Governor Wike. My prayers are with him.

“You see, we need someone that can protect the rich and the poor. Someone that can protect the people. We need someone that can turn around Nigeria’s economy.”
