Meet Orire Agbaje, the UI Student Who Was Appointed By Tinubu on Tax Reform Committee

President Bola Tinubu has appointed a 400-level Economics student of the University of Ibadan (UI), Orire Agbaje, as a member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

Agbaje is a highly accomplished student with a passion for tax policy and reform. She is the President of The Tax Club, University of Ibadan (UI), and also the President of the Nigerian Universities Tax Club. She is also a certified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Orire Agbaje is not your average student. She is a 400-level Economics student, who has a passion for taxation and fiscal policy. She is also the President of The Tax Club, UI, and the Nigerian Universities Tax Club, two organisations that promote tax education and awareness among students and the public.

Agbaje’s impressive achievements have not gone unnoticed by the highest authority in the country. President Bola Tinubu has appointed her as a member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a prestigious and influential body that will shape the future of Nigeria’s tax system.

The committee, which was inaugurated by Tinubu on Tuesday, consists of experts from both the private and public sectors. It is chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, a tax and fiscal policy expert who is also the Head of Tax and Corporate Advisory Services at PwC Nigeria.

The committee’s mandate is to review and reform various aspects of tax law, fiscal policy design and coordination, harmonisation of taxes, and revenue administration. The committee will also advise the president on tax policy issues and propose measures to improve tax compliance and revenue generation.

Agbaje is one of the youngest members of the committee, but she is not intimidated by the task ahead. She describes herself as “assertive and hardworking” on her LinkedIn profile. She also says that she loves “crunching digits” and has taken up Accounting (ICAN) courses to further her knowledge of corporate finance and taxation.

She is also interested in sports and volunteering, and likes to be productive in whatever she engages in. She has great leadership and interpersonal skills, which she has demonstrated in her roles as the president of the tax clubs.

Agbaje is an inspiration to many young Nigerians who aspire to make a difference in their fields of study and society. She is proof that hard work, passion, and excellence can open doors to opportunities and recognition. She is also a role model for women empowerment and gender equality in a male-dominated sector.

Agbaje’s appointment to the committee is a testament to her skills and experience in tax policy and reform. She is a rising star in the field of tax policy, and her appointment to the committee is a sign that President Tinubu is committed to reforming the Nigerian tax system.
