Two days ago, a resident of Irepodun Ifelodun local government area of the state, the Western security outfit named Amotekun and their Anti-grazing team was driving herdsmen out of the area and escorting them out peacefully.

Meanwhile, the State Government has confirmed the incident, saying, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Folorunso Olabode has been abducted by suspected bandits at about 7:00pm on Sunday, April 26.

The kidnappers, who also kidnapped a woman, shot dead a councillor in Ilejemeje Local Government area of the State, Tunji Omotoso.

According to the State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Aare Muyiwa Olumilua, the commissioner was on his way from Ado-Ekiti to his hometown in Iye-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

“Governor Kayode Fayemi has mandated the security agencies in the State to ensure their prompt and safe release, while assuring residents that adequate measures are ongoing, to maintain the peace and security of the State. He promised that all perpetrators of this and any crime will be brought to book.

“The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Amba Asuquo, has confirmed that a team has already been dispatched, and are on the trail of the abductors, with a view to securing their release,” Olumilua said.

Recall that Ekiti State local government chairmen have blocked major roads in border communities that serve as entry and exit points in to and out of the state.

The council chairmen took the dramatic step to prevent illegal entry into the state in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state.

The action might have been triggered by the alleged complicity of security agents at the state borders who have been accused of collecting bribes from commercial and private vehicle drivers to allow them access into the state.

The roads were blocked with big logs of wood felled by workmen, iron rods, big stones and other objects making them impassable.
