BREAKING: European Union grants Nigeria €50m to fight Coronavirus

The European Union on Tuesday, April 14, has given Nigeria a grant of €50 million to fight COVID-19.

The grant was announced by the Head of EU delegation in Nigeria, Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, at a meeting with President Buhari in Abuja.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, also confirmed this in a tweet on Tuesday.

Adesina said “EU gives Nigeria a grant of 50 million Euro to fight Covid-19.

 Head of EU delegation, Amb Ketil Karlsen, at the event commended President Buhari for “your powerful address to the nation last night,” and for “the bold and necessary measures you’ve taken.”

Newsflash247 had reported that Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, had announced the extension of the restriction of movement in Lagos, Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory by another 14 days over the Coronavirus pandemic.

The president, in a nationwide broadcast on Monday night, said the extension became imperative following the increasing number of cases being reported on a daily basis in the country.

According to the president” “With this in mind and having carefully considered the briefings and report from the Presidential Task Force and the various options offered, it has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT for another 14 days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020. I am therefore once again asking you all to work with Government in this fight.”
