BREAKING: Court sentences Nollywood star, Funke Akindele, husband to 14-day community service

A Magistrate court sitting in Lagos on Monday, April 6, has sentenced Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello a.k.a JJC skills to 14 days community service each.

They are to serve three hours per day excluding Saturday and Sunday.

They must each visit 10 public places to educate people on the consequences of not complying with directives on Coronavirus.

The court also directed them to pay a fine of N100,000 each.

Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, have pleaded guilty for breaching the lockdown directives imposed by the Lagos state government to halt the spread of COVID-19.

The movie star was arraigned in court for violating the directive of the state government which had ordered Lagosians to stay at home.

Akindele was arrested on Sunday, after she staged a house party, flouting the social distance measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The one-count charge reads: “That you (1) Funke Akindele (2) Abdul Rasheed Bello on the 4th day of April, 2020 at 9, Gbadamosi Close, Amen Estate, Ibeju Lekki in the Lagos Magisterial District gathered at the aforementioned address with over twenty persons contrary to the social distancing directives of Mr Governor of Lagos State made pursuant to Regulation 8(29)(a) & (b) and 17(1)(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020 and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law Cap P16 Vol 9 Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”

After reading the charge brought before them by the court, the couple both pleaded guilty.
