There is mild Jubilation in Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC when the appeal court has affirmed the decision of the election petition tribunal sacking Dino Melaye as senator representing Kogi West.
The Appeal court in Abuja on Friday sacked the Senator representing Kogi West, in Kogi State, Dino Melaye.
The Court affirmed the judgment of the Kogi State National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
It has, therefore, nullified the election of Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
The court order the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, is to conduct fresh elections within 90 days from today.
Meanwhile, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that The Kogi State National and State Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja had sacked Senator Dino Melaye as the representative of Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The judgment delivered by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice A.O Chijoke, ordered that INEC should conduct a fresh election for the district within 90 days.
The judgment was on the petition filed by Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 26 election.
Senator Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared a winner in the February 2019 National Assembly election but Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) approached the tribunal and challenged Dino’s victory.
Adeyemi cited irregularities, over voting and non-compliance with the electoral acts as his reasons for challenging the election outcome.
The tribunal in a unanimous judgment on Friday, therefore, upheld Senator Adeyemi’s ground and ordered for fresh election in the senatorial district.
