Bloody In Yola As Police, Christians Protesters Clash Over Fulani Herdsmen

Scores of Christians in Adamawa State were teargassed and wounded by the police for allegedly carrying out an “unauthorised” protest against Fulani herdsmen.

The rally was deemed needful by the youths who earlier learned from the CAN state chairman, Bishop Dami Mamza while addressing a crowd of Christians at St. Theresa Catholic Church Yola that the rally was prohibited.

Bishop Mamza accused police in the state of frustrating efforts to transmit a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the ongoing wanton killings in some communities in the state by suspected Fulani militia.

Bishop Mamza alleged that the police that ought to protect all and sundry without fear or favour, prevented CAN members from carrying on a peaceful demonstration to convey their displeasure against various massacres in agrarian communities in the state to the Presidency.

It was planned to be a peaceful demonstration by the Adamawa state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria but regrettably turned bloody.

According to him, the police who ought to protect them prevented CAN members from carrying on a peace demonstration to convey their displeasure against various massacres in 43 agrian communities within the state to the Presidency.

He urged the Federal government to deploy more security personnel to the state to stop the ongoing killing.

The youth wing of CAN, visibly frustrated by the announcement of their chairman, took to the streets of Yola where they were consequently confronted by the police who dispersed them with tear gas.

Many protesters were in the process wounded.

The protesters however regrouped and matched to Government House where they destroyed campaign billboards of governor Jibrila Bindow.
