PDP ‘children’ will teach you a lesson – Gov Wike tells Ayu

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, lambasted the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, saying those he referred to as children would teach him a lesson.

Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, had disclosed that he is not bothered about the calls for his resignation, saying the proponents of such moves are youngsters who do not have a grasp of the goals of the party when it was formed.

Ayu said that PDP members and stakeholders elected him based on the laid down rules of the main opposition party.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, the national chairman pointed out that even if there would be another election, those calling for his resignation would not be replacing him.

He stated “I was voted as PDP Chairman for a four-year tenure and I’m yet to complete a year. Atiku’s victory doesn’t affect the Chairman’s position. I won my election based on our party’s constitution.

“I didn’t commit any offence; I’m only reforming the party so I’m not bothered with all the noises. I know I’m doing my work and I didn’t steal any money so I see no reason for all these talks.

“When we started PDP, these children were not around. They are children who do not know why we formed the party. We will not allow any individual to destabilize our party,” he said.

Reacting, the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, lambasted Senator Iyorchia Ayu, saying the latter was interested in the N14 billion the party raised during primaries.

He said Ayu desired to manage the funds, pointing out that he has demonstrated the highest level of ingratitude and arrogance for describing him and members of his team as children after he assisted in attaining his present position.

Wike who spoke at the commissioning of Omerelu Internal roads in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state on Thursday said those Ayu was referring to as children would teach him a lesson.

“These children you said we are, brought you from nothing,” Wike said.

He added, “Now we have seen that you don’t want the party to win the election, we will help you.

“Ayu, you said you founded this party, but you left the party in 2007. You founded a company, you left the company, and people stood and brought out the company to what it is today, you have no moral right to still come and claim that you founded that company, you left with your shares.

“Nigerians have seen how ungrateful some of you can be, and that’s why Nigerians also want to be careful, if we give these people power, are you sure they will also be grateful to Nigerians?”.
