Zamfara jubilates as Appeal Court affirms Lawal Dare as PDP governorship candidate

Thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters on Friday trooped out to Gusau streets to jubilate over the Appeal court’s affirmed governorship candidate of Dr Dauda Lawal Dare.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto on Friday affirmed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Zamfara State, Dr Dauda Lawal Dare as the authentic candidate in the 2023 general election.

The Appeal court set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, the state capital, which had earlier nullified Dare’s primary election victory.

Recall that in November 2022, the Federal High court nullified the governorship primary of the PDP that produced Dare as the party’s candidate.

Newsflash Nigeria reports that this is the second time the court nullified Dare’s candidature in the state.

The Federal High Court had also declared in its judgement that the PDP had no candidate for the said position in the forthcoming election in the state.

It could also be recalled that in September 2022, the court nullified the previous primary that elected Lawal-Dare following a suit filed before by Ibrahim Shehu and two other aspirants challenging the credibility of the primary.

The court ruled that there should be a rerun of the party’s governorship primary in the state but Lawal-Dare emerged winner at the rerun.

Meanwhile, thousands of the PDP supporters trooped out to Gusau streets to jubilate over the Appeal court victory of Lawal Dauda Dare.

The supporters gathered at the Muslims Foundation where they started their solidarity rally.

The crowd went around the major street of Gusau, the State capital, saying they were ready to wrestle power from the ruling APC.

One of the supporters, Ibrahim Mohammed told newsmen that other candidates of the party have not started campaigns because of the case in the Appeal court.

“We are now ready to battle and revolt against APC through the ballot box”, he said.

“We must change the political tradition of Zamfara State by asking the electorates what APC has done in the State since 1999”.
