Assault: Nigerians react as Tinubu threatens Senator Abbo with suspension [VIDEO]

Embattled Sen. Ishiaku Abbo (PDP-Adamawa) on Tuesday challenged members of the Senate investigative panel handling his alleged case of assault on a nursing mother not to threaten him with suspension.

The Senator in a viral video, which has again stirred reactions online, spoke when he appeared before the 6-man panel set up by the Senate to investigate him.

Abbo, who appeared before his colleagues at exactly 3.15 p.m., told them that the matter was already before the court, hence he would not make comments that could amount to prejudice of the Court process.

Drama started when he said that he had no business appearing and making comments about the matter anywhere. He also refused to allow the clerk of the panel to put him on oath, as usual.

Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (APC-Lagos), who is also a member of the panel, expressed displeasure over Abbo’s comment and insistence before the panel.

“This matter has affected the Senate as an institution and we have been mandated to investigate it. You can’t sit there on the other side and dictate the modalities and approach we follow to us as committee.

“We are trying to protect the Senate and hear from you, but we can also suspend you because of your attitude.”

At this point, Abbo flared up and said he won’t allow the committee to threaten him with suspension, having earlier informed it that the matter is before a court.

The viral video of Senator Elisha Abbo threatening Tinubu and Senate committee over his suspension has continued to stir reactions online.

Some Nigerians are in defense of Tinubu adding that Abbo deserves to be threatened; however, others are of the opinion that Mrs. Tinubu was rude to her colleague.

Here are some reactions gathered from Twitter:

@O_Parta “Remi Tinubu or what ever her name is has no right to threaten him with suspension. They are both senators. She didn’t elect him there his people did. She took things personally and was trying to scold him like he’s her son even telling him to keep quiet and switch off his microphone.”

@Urhmanshehu “For crying out loud, Remi Tinubu has gone over bound. He is a Senator like Remi Tinubu. The matter is in Court. What else does she want?”

@Gimbakakanda “I’ve watched a longer video of the exchange between Remi Tinubu and Elisha Abbo. I get that Abbo is “underserving” of respect and has anger problem, but Senator Tinubu was unnecessarily condescending. At a point she sounded as though she’s addressing a school kid, not colleague.”

@ClassicNedu “Why is Remi Tinubu acting like she’s the President of the world? Was she not the same woman that was caught on camera displaying her ethnic bigotry towards the Igbos? How can an elected senator threaten another senator with suspension? This woman has so much guts.”

@Dammmeey “It’s a committee, do you expect Tinubu to praise him for being foolish?

@Slai4ril “He had the option not to honour the disciplinary committee but he did and beside the matter is in court so. Senator Tinubu took it personally trying to order him around. They are all senators even though a mistake was done.”

@Gashaash “Can’t see where Remi Tinubu went wrong, he must submit himself to the investigation Committee.”

@Feliboy4 “His fundamental rights should be protected! You don’t talk down on your fellow human being like that, engage him in a normal discussion and get your facts, collate and submit period.”

@Insidiouslife “I understand this Abbo man is arrogant. But what was Remi Tinubu trying to get at when she said with age. What does age have that do with anything?
