Another Yoruba Actor, Baba No Regret, Is Dead

Barely 10 days after the death of comic actor, Baba Sala, the Yoruba movie Industry has once again been thrown into mourning as actor Ola Omonitan popularly as Baba No Regret passed away.

Late Baba No Regret who was best known for his television series Omo Araye Le and Bata Wahala, was said to have died shortly after being discharged from the University College Hospital, Ibadan where he had been receiving treatment for multiple ailments including prostate cancer.

He had been suffering from prostate cancer for at least six years.

In 2013 he granted an interview where he credited the late Muslim leader, Alhaji Azeez Arisekola Alao for paying for his treatment abroad as he couldn’t afford it at the time.

He said in an interview that although he enjoyed being a comedian and actor, he regretted abandoning his actual vocation, carpentry. He was also incapacitated for nearly four years after a motorcycle accident.

One of his other regrets was falling out with the late Baba Sala whom he once saw as a mentor.

In 2014 he said to The Nation: “People turned us (he and Baba Sala) into enemies which ought not to happen.

Again, some artists believed that we were competing enemies but I did not see it that way. I like Baba Sala because he was a good comedian and I always praised him for that. When our misunderstanding started he went to the North and we were given his time on NTA every Wednesday instead of our normal Monday. When he came back he was annoyed with the new arrangement, saying that we also took the show’s name ‘Awada’ from (his) ‘Alawada’ series. So, he said he was taking us to court for that and NTA said it was ready to defend us because it was NTA that gave us that stage name but later we did not hear anything from the court again.”

Baba No Regret was 80 years old.
