Drunk SARS Officials Killed Osun Student

Someone who witnessed the tragic shooting of Tunde Nafiu, the 30-year-old killed by an official of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Iwo, Osun State, says not only were four SARS officials present when the unfortunate incident took place, the policemen were also drunk.

Speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters, the witness, who asked not to be named, narrated what happened on that Thursday night, saying the deceased was with a friend and they were waiting to board a commercial motorcycle to Ile-Ogbo, when a van carrying the four policemen drove recklessly into view.

“On that fateful day, Thursday, August 23, 2018, he had just alighted at Iwo junction. He was with a friend,” the witness recalled.

“They were waiting for a bike rider to take them to Ile-Ogbo. There was a van, which was driven recklessly by a driver. There were four drunk SARS officers, and the driver jumped out of the vehicle first. He was accompanied by the second officer, who harassed them. The time was around 9pm.

“An officer named Gbadamosi Lukman was the one who shot Tunde; Tunde fell on the floor instantly, before he was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

“That same night, a group of people present at the scene of the incident had to hold down the SARS officers. They were taken to Area Command in Iwo. The following morning, Friday, August 24, 2018, some of the youth went to the police station demand justice, but they weren’t allowed to enter. As a result, they pulled down the fence and set it ablaze.”

Attempts to get a response to the allegation from Olafimihan Adeoye, Commissioner of Police in Osun State, were unsuccesful, as calls to his mobile number were not picked.
