First Lady Oluremi Tinubu: How to Survive in Nigeria Without Depending on the Government

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to show compassion to one another and not to depend on the government for everything.

Mrs Tinubu made this appeal on Wednesday during a meeting with the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) in her office at the State House, Abuja.

She also urged Nigerians to cope with the effects of subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu, which has led to an increase in the prices of fuel and other commodities.

She said that the subsidy removal was necessary to improve the economy and provide better services to the people.

The First Lady also advised Nigerian women to instill good moral values in youth, adding that the youth must realise their true identity as Nigerians and not adopt foreign cultures that are not compatible with their values. She said that the youth are the future of the nation and they must be guided and mentored by their parents and elders.

She said: “We cannot wait for the government to do everything. We must lend a helping hand to everyone around us, especially those who are less privileged and vulnerable.

“We must be compassionate and empathetic to the plight of others. We must also support the government in its efforts to transform the country and make it better for all of us.

“The youth must realise who they are, their true identity as Nigerians and not the borrowed foreign culture. They must be proud of their heritage, culture, language and religion. They must also respect their elders and learn from their wisdom. I remember that growing up, when there was a birthday party, we all as children would eat from the same tray, and this enhanced our oneness then. At that time, the whole village raised a child.”
